In accordance with Anglesey’s Child Protection policy, the school has a Child Protection policy. The policy exists to ensure that children are not abused in school or beyond. In cases where there are claims of abuse there are tight structures to be followed.
As part of the Child Protection procedure we have structures that ask for parents’ permission for pupils to use the internet, ask for parents’ permission for the school to take pictures of the pupils at work for the use of the school, permission for members of the media to take pictures for the use of a newspaper and permission for known individuals to make a video of school presentations.
Child protection is an important and serious matter but the policy and procedures that we have exist to ensure the safety and welfare of your child. If you wish to discuss the policy, contact the Headteacher.
Equal Opportunities
Every individual in our charge should receive education of equal value within the school’s general plan. We try to create a safe, trusting and motivating atmosphere in every corner of the school and co-operation, care and tolerance are encouraged, between adults and children and between children and each other. Distiction is given to every individual’s contribution and his ideas and opinion are respected. Fair and reasonable behavioural expectations are placed on the pupils, expectations that will lead to awareness and understanding of the needs and rights of others. We try to ensure that the pupils receive positive messages of equality. It is endeavoured to avoid creating gender differences in the tasks set for pupils, e.g. in Physical Education, Technology, Art; in classroom organization and group composition, in creating rows, in sharing duties, in referring pupils to places and play and work equipment. It is ensured that extra-curricular activities are open to everyone. It is ensured that praise and rebuke methods are common to everyone. This aspect is detailed further in our Equal Opportunities Policy.
Promorting Racial Equality / Responding to cases of Racism
Here, at Ysgol Gymuned Bodffordd, we wish to ensure that every pupil receives the opportunity to nurture life’s necessary skills. We need to ensure and provide an environment that enables pupils to nurture the values and attitudes and the basic personal and social skills that would be necessary in contemporary society and culture . We consider that racial comments from anyone who is involved in the school are completely unacceptable.
The school endeavours not to differentiate between anyone on the basis of race, religion, nationality, ethnicity or national lineage. We endeavour to promote fairness for everyone through the education that is provided in school. We endeavour at all times to avoid any kind of passive differentiation that could be an impediment to learning. We would not accept stereotyping and prejudice and would compete against it if need arose. Where possible, we would celebrate the difference and the cultural richness within our community.
Preventing Racism
Every pupil has the right to receive the best that we could offer as regards education and marginal activities. We do not accept any form of racism or racial behaviour. Should such cases happen, we would respond directly to avoid repeating such behaviour/occurence. There is a requirement to record cases of racial comments or interference and contact the Education Authority.
Religion
This school does not hold direct and formal links with any religious denomination. In accordance with national curriculum requirements the different religions and beliefs that occur in the world are presented to the pupils, as well as morals and guidelines for living in the world outside the boundaries of the school.
Daily services are held in the school following the law’s requirements. The services will deal with a variety of themes, with pupils and teachers responsible for presenting them. Service times are: 9.00am daily. An annual plan of the school’s service themes is provided.
Worship
There are no direct or formal religious links. Ministers and friends are welcomed to school to assist us on occasion. The pupils in their turn go to chapel to take part in services such as Harvest Thanksgiving. The objective is to get the school to play a prominent and appropriate part in the community’s spiritual life.
If a parent does not wish for his child to take part in services nor in Biblical/Religious studies then, according to his conscience the parent has the right to withdraw the child from the Religious Education provision that is offered. The Headteacher should be notified of the wish to do so in a clear letter.
